Normally, I wouldn’t indulge in this kind of language — but this is a reference to a new Forbes article: “St. Louis Doesn’t Suck.” The author first points out the ways St. Louis is denigrated by people outside the metro area (see, for example, The Onion‘s farcical piece on St. Louis as an undesirable destination). Then he advocates a comprehensive marketing plan to improve the Mound City’s image.
Give a read — and let me know what you think.
ST. LOUIS DOES NOT SUCK. ST. LOUIS IS A SPECIAL PLACE WITH MANY SPECIAL AREAS KNOWN ONLY TO ST LOUISANS. UNLESS YOU GREW UP HERE PEOPLE DONT REALLY UNDERSTAND THE CITY AND ITS SUBURBS. I GREW UP HERE. I HAVE LIVED IN MANY OTHER AREAS OF THE COUNTRY. I LIVED IN THE DESERT SOUTHWEST. I LIVED IN THE GREAT NORTHWEST. I LIVED IN NEW ENGLAND AND THE MID-ATLANTIC STATES. AND HAVE BEEN TO AND SPENT TIME IN ALMOST EVERY OTHER AREA AND KNOW THE PEOPLE.
I TRULY BELIEVE IN DOROTHY’S WORDS IN THE WIZARD OF OZ..”THERE’S NO PLACE LIKE HOME”. PEOPLE LOVE THEIR HOME, OF THAT I AM SURE. BUT IF YOU ARE OF THE LUCKY TO CALL ST LOUIS HOME, THEN IT IS EVEN MORE SPECIAL.
OUTSIDERS JUST DONT GET IT. ITS THEIR LOSS NOT TO EXPLORE THE DEPTHS OF OUR GREAT CITY, THE CAVES BENEATH, AND THE FOOTHILLS AND OZARK MTS. ABOVE.
FOR THOSE WHO SAY ST LOUIS SUCKS. COME VISIT. LET ME TAKE YOU ON A SPECIAL TOUR THAT WILL CHANGE YOUR MIND.
PROUD TO BE FROM ST LOUIS! SO, THOSE OF YOU THAT SAY OUR CITY SUCKS, SUCK ON MY WORDS.
